Dear Roamers,
This weekend we’ll be hitting the capital city for a trespass highlighting inequalities in urban access and organising rallies in London and Dartmoor opposing the attempt to ban wild camping in Dartmoor. Want to join us? Read on!
Ghost of Christmas Trespass
On Sunday December 11th we’ll be trespassing a slice of London’s secret green space in a night of Christmas mystery, featuring Dickensian ghosts and modern scrooges.
Dress code: A Christmas Carol. Lanterns. Rat Catchers. Spectral forms. Whichever character from The Muppets takes your fancy.
From Epping Forest to Hampstead Heath and One Tree Hill, access to much of London’s green space was not given but won. Recently, the pandemic revealed how far we still have to go for equality in access to nature in our cities. 21% of London households have no garden, and while half the city can be classified as green and blue space, only around 18% of it is accessible…
Join the Right to Roam campaign as we take you on a trespassing tour of the deepest, darkest secrets of English landownership. Yet amid these grim portents, we will be warmed by much Christmas cheer! The countryside yet to come is better than past or present! COME, SPIRITS ALL!

Rally against the Dartmoor Camping Ban
On Monday December 12th we’ll be holding a rally outside the Royal Courts of Justice as the case attempting to ban wild camping on Dartmoor is heard.
We need your support! See below for ways to get involved by rallying, camping in solidarity and sharing your stories:
📢 Join the London Defend Wild Camping Rally at the Royal Court of Justice in London on Monday 12th December at 12 noon. Hear from the activists, poets, hikers, writers, musicians and young people for whom wild camping has been an essential form of inspiration and connection to the natural world. Please spread the word, and sign up here.
✨ If you can't make it to London, join a rally on Dartmoor on the 11th December at 11am in Princetown, at the monument in the visitor centre car park. Rally will be followed by a guided walk to Kings Tor.
⛺ We are calling for solidarity wild camps over the weekend of the 10th/11th December and into the following week when the court case is to be heard. Head out into your local patch and pitch up. Share your experiences and support using the hashtags #TheStarsAreForEveryone and #SaveDartmoor
🗣️ Share your stories of what wild camping on Dartmoor means to you, on Robert MacFarlane's Twitter thread here, or elsewhere online using the hashtag #TheStarsAreForEveryone
These stories will become very important as we go into 2023. Whether the case is won or lost, we will continue to campaign for responsible wild camping.
