Buglife and Bumblebee Conservation came into my inbox and reminded me of the little things that matter. The temperature has lessened on the Costa Blanca which made me think of the approaching winter weather on our small oasis in North Cornwall. Wildlife has to survive the best it can. Adverse weather conditions reek havoc and so does the use of insecticides. Us humans love to exert control over the natural environment but we don’t have to —shouldn’t have too because if we let it, nature can take care of itself.
I wrote these two short poems awhile ago and they will be included in my collection entitled ‘Co-Existence. There they are.
insectinction
it’s what we do
corralled into a belief
of needless control
poison spray spumed
out and over
the un-valued
‘little things’
they - at the bottom
of the food chain
feed the voracious
predators killing
to eat - that's okay
but we humans
keep buggering
it all up - so far
I can see values
changing - mindsets too
it's the majority we need
‘Cides’ it is!
You can buy ‘em
over the counter like a lottery ticket
Who cares? Killing is normal, isn't it?
Anyway the clue is in the label
Insects and cide from the Latin
- killing and the big ‘pharmas’
make millions out of killing
Genocide multiple times over!
