BADGERS AND AN INCREASE IN CULLING PLANNED

I hate to be telling you this news but the Government has overturned plans to phase out the badger cull, with proposals to exterminate the vast majority of some local populations across much of south-west and central England.

Friend of Protect the Wild, Tom Langton, an ecological consultant and badger expert, said: “Sunak now wants all the badgers dead.” He said the consultation launched by the government on Thursday included “chilling plans to kill 100% of badgers in bovine TB affected areas, an increase on the limit previously imposed since culling started in 2013”.

The senseless badger cull has now seen the deaths of over 200,000 badgers and this number is set to rise.

We are going to do all that we can to ensure that the cull comes to an end. In 2022 we released an undercover investigation where we exposed the grim reality of the cull. Our hidden cameras showed workers at Grafton Pet Crematorium, Northamptonshire, showing a blatant and consistent disregard for potential biohazards and spread of disease.

Piles and piles of badgers killed as a scapegoat for the spread of TB to cattle despite a complete lack of scientific evidence.
Adopt a badger today and help end the badger cull

Protect the Wild is working to tackle badger persecution.

  • We have commissioned a series of hard-hitting animations about the cull.

  • We’re syndicating the blog posts of the Badger Crowd – a team of specialised ecologists and scientists who focus on badgers and the cull.

  • We created Protectors of the Wild, a free resource that looks in detail at the laws protecting badgers and other animals. Protectors explains what we can do if we see a wildlife crime taking place.

  • Through our Support Network and Equipment Fund we’re providing trail cams and night vision optics to front-line groups taking direct action in the field to protect badgers.

  • And we are calling for an immediate end to government-sanctioned badger culls. Join us.

By adopting a badger with Protect the Wild you will help fund our efforts to protect badgers and help expose wildlife crimes committed against wild badger populations.

As an adopter, not only will you be helping fund vital work, but you will also receive an exclusive Protect the Wild adoption pack including cuddly toy, glossy photo, and an information fact sheet.
